Save lives while enjoying fun incentives during the Milwaukee County Zoo's blood drive
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The American Red Cross is currently facing a critical need for blood and platelet donations, offering an incentive to donors beyond the lifesaving impact of their contributions.
A blood drive is scheduled to take place at the Milwaukee County Zoo's Peck Center, where participants can receive zoo admission, Summerfest tickets and more. It is scheduled for Monday, June 24 through Wednesday, June 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Donors of all blood types are needed, particularly those with type O, A negative and B negative blood for Power Red donations.
Mark Thomas, CEO and Regional Executive for the Red Cross of Wisconsin said in a Wednesday, June 12 press release that summertime is typically when blood donations slow down, but the demand does not change. "Someone needs blood every two seconds, so having a stable blood supply is really critical. We urge people to roll up their sleeves and donate to help save lives."
Donors will receive free same-day zoo admission, parking and two free tickets to Summerfest, while supplies last. Additionally, donors giving between June 10 - 30 will get a $15 e-gift card to a selected merchant.
Appointments are encouraged, though walk-ins are welcome as space allows. For more information and to schedule an appointment, visit RedCrossBlood.org/DoGood.
