Several Milwaukee pools and splash pads closed due to staff shortages

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee County Parks announced their outdoor pool and splash pad season will begin in early June. However, due to staff shortages, many will be closed for the 2022 season.

The city will open five splash pads, nine wading pools and four outdoor pools, including Schulz Aquatic Center at Lincoln Park, Sheridan Park Pool, Wilson Park Pool and McCarty Park Pool.

Full details and fees are available here.

Milwaukee County Parks has also partnered with Milwaukee Recreation to offer lifeguard prep, open swim and lap swim times, at six local Milwaukee Recreation sites. More information can be found here.

However, after six months of efforts to recruit lifeguards, and increasing wages and adding summer bonuses, only 60 new lifeguards were hired.

There will be one last opportunity to become a Milwaukee County Parks lifeguard. The express session for strong swimmers will be on Monday, May 23 to Thursday, May 26 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. The pay will be between $16.14-$22, depending on the position and certifications.

Several Milwaukee County Parks will be closed this summer due to staff shortages.
