Sheboygan police shoot suspect who lunged at officer, investigation underway

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An independent investigation is underway after police shot a suspect who they say assaulted an officer. 

Police responded near 13th and Superior Sunday night, Sept. 8 for a man who was waving around a gun. 

Authorities say while officers were investigation, the suspect lunged at one of them and took the officer's handgun. 

A second officer shot the suspect who was later airlifted to a Green Bay hospital for surgery. 

CBS 58 is told the officer who was assaulted had minor injuries. He is a 29-year-old man with two years of service with the department. 

Both officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave. 

West Bend police are the lead agency on the investigation.
