Signs of fall are here: leaves changing color and earlier sunsets
We just got done with a long stretch of cool weather and a "false fall" if you will. As temps have finally warmed up above average for the first time in nearly a month we are seeing some other signs of the fall season approaching. The fall equinox happens next Monday, September 22nd at 1:19 PM in Wisconsin.
A sure sign of the fall season approaching are the earlier sunrises and later sunsets. The sunrise time is now after 6:30 AM which happened over the weekend and the sunsets are now before 7 PM. Total daylight is under twelve and a half hours.
A few random trees are starting to change color in southeast Wisconsin as well but most of the fall color has held off. Our first counties on the Fall Color map from Travel Wisconsin show Florence and Forest Counties way up north showing about 25% peak color.
Traditionally, most of Wisconsin doesn't see peak color until the month of October with northern counties getting to peak in the first two weeks of the month, central Wisconsin in the middle of the month and southeast Wisconsin getting to peak color in the last two weeks of October.
