MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A remarkable education story has been playing out over the last few years in Milwaukee, talking about St. Augustine Prep Academy.
The Christian, non-denominational school on Milwaukee's south side has been by many objective standards, a rousing success. Now, the work begins on the north side.
They held a groundbreaking on Wednesday, Oct. 16 on the old Cardinal Stritch University campus for what will be called "Aug Prep North," the old college will be transformed into a K4-12 school for students in and around Milwaukee.
St. Augustine Prep is known for the academic success of its students and for its popularity.
Aug Prep South has 2,200 students enrolled and eventually, the north campus will serve more than 1,000.
Co-founder Gus Ramirez calls it a unique place.
"Forty-three acres, the space for athletic fields, the ability to build an academic institution which we think will be second to none. And to build it in a way that glorifies God and provides students the ability to meet all their potential," said Ramirez.
Ramirez sees Aug Prep North as a place where students of different backgrounds learn with and learn from each other.
It's scheduled to open in the fall of 2026.
