St. Camillus celebrates Independence Day early with indoor parade

NOW: St. Camillus celebrates Independence Day early with indoor parade

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Independence Day parades are typically held outdoors in the summer sunshine on the Fourth of July, but there are exceptions.

A festive, colorful Independence Day parade was held not on July 4, but on June 26, and this parade marched through the halls of St. Camillus, the life plan center for seniors.

They had music, the mayor of Wauwatosa, police officers and firefighters. They put on this parade because it's not easy for a lot of the people at St. Camillus to get outside.

"It's also a nice opportunity, where we can engage residents who might not come out of their rooms as often," said Sheila Muencheberg, St. Camillus recreation therapy manager. "We go right by their rooms, and they can engage us and enjoy the parade as well."

Milwaukee's popular Dancing Grannies even made an appearance, spreading smiles as they always do.
