Starms Early Childhood Center cleared to reopen; students to remain relocated for rest of school year

CBS 58

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Health Department has cleared Starms Early Childhood Center for occupancy, according to a letter sent to families and school staff members.

The school is one of multiple MPS schools that temporarily closed due to significant lead hazards. Starms Early Childhood Center closed in March, and students and staff relocated to Starms Discovery Learning Center.

MPS says painting, stabilization and cleaning at the school is now complete, however students and staff will continue to report to Starms Discovery Learning Center for the rest of the school year.

They say the decision was made "to respect the wishes of the school community" and to limit additional disruption at the end of the year.

A town hall for families of Starms Early Childhood Center, LaFollette School, Brown Street School, and Westside Academy will be held Wednesday, May 28, at 6 p.m. at Rufus King International Middle School.
