WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- CBS 58 went to Waukesha Area Technical College on Friday, March 7, where we watched a competition for what may become the next generation of engineers and scientists.
More than 140 kids from seven hometown middle schools took part in the Fluid Power Challenge. They were grouped in teams and each team had three hours to build a device for a very specific purpose.
"This challenge is designed for the students to see what pressurized fluid can actually do to create control and movement. In this case, they're asked to lift a particular game piece and move it to a point on the board," said Ryan Hazelwood, marketing and training manager, Price Engineering.
The challenge kits they received contained wood pieces, wooden wheels, plastic tubing and glue. We were there as the kids were building their devices.
Trophies were waiting for the winners in categories that included design champion, teamwork champion, portfolio champion and overall champion.
