'I felt the building rumble': SUV slams into apartment complex in West Milwaukee
WEST MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An uneasy start to the year for some people in the west side of Milwaukee, when a car slammed into their apartment complex.
The crash happened around 8 a.m. in Thursday morning, Jan. 1, at 29th street and West Kilbourn.
Bricks and debris are scattered on the ground after a car essentially bounced off the apartment building, rattling residents inside.
"I didn't really hear anything I felt it I felt the building rumble," said Peter Ward, resident.
Just hours after the count down to the new year, the sound of celebrations was replaced with emergency sirens following the crash.
"I look out the window and saw a vehicle sitting on the lawn apparently having hit the building although apparently have bounced off because it was not on the building," said District 4 Alderman Robert Bauman.
Alderman Bauman lives in the area. He says he heard a thud but didn't think much of it until the firetrucks arrived.
"That's not unusual for this neighborhood. But when they stopped in front of your house, that's unusual," Alderman Bauman explained.
CBS 58 obtained ring camera footage that captures the moment firefighters arrived on scene.
"I look out the window and the paramedics were attending to someone in the passenger seat," said Alderman Bauman.
Anthony Bully lives in the apartment unit that was hit. He says he was sitting on the couch when the car slammed into the wall.
"I look out the window and there's a car right next to the window," said Bully.
He says cold air is now blowing into his apartment.
"I might as well put my living room and sit it outside, yeah its winter in there," Bully explained.
Despite the cold, Bully says he contacted his landlord and does not plan on leaving his home.
"I ain't going nowhere just patch the hole until it gets done," said Bully.
