Meet the team behind the Humboldt Fourth of July fireworks
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 360-degree view of fireworks lights up the sky at Humboldt Park, but a lot of work goes into making this night special.
“It’s actually an art of thinking how it’s going to look in the sky and how it presents,” said Matthew Mazur, President of the Humboldt Park Fourth of July.
Mazur also works for Wolverine Fireworks; he has been putting on the firework show at Humbolt for the past ten years.
“Right at about 9 o’clock in the morning we grab our trucks," said Mazur.
900 shells in the firing line are being prepared to light up the sky. While you're enjoying your cookout, Matthew and his crew are hard at work.
It's the biggest show of any park in Milwaukee County, but the planning starts...
“Right after the fourth of July, starting from logistics, planning at our warehouse, they have to order fireworks and the fireworks take a while to come from overseas, so we are already planning firework shows for next year,” Mazur explained.
Matthew's wife, Jessica Mazur, is the Treasurer of the Humbolt Park Fourth of July and a pyrotechnician with Wolverine Fireworks, she says the week leading up is the busiest time.
“Renting trucks, loading guns onto trucks, sorting out fireworks for each show we are doing, and then getting everything loaded safely because you have to have a special driver's license - these are hazmat items - then getting it here and getting it set up,” Mazur explained.
With the amount of rain we have gotten this year, the weather was a concern.
"We take precautions we have tarps and can get away it’s light drizzle we can usually make do but if it’s something more than that we generally can’t,” said Mazur.
