6:40pm Update - A wake low has created power outages and trees down. More storms are expected this evening.
6:40 PM Update:
We continue to keep a watch on a scattering of storms to our west. Here's the latest radar imagery.
Those storms back to the west are moving northeast at 50 mph. As of now we have not had any warnings on these storms. While the severe threat isn't zero, it is very low tonight. Expect some brief downpours, lightning, gusty wind and perhaps some small hail in any strong storms that hold together to make it to our area. The storms and rain depart by midnight.
5:15 PM Update:
Southeastern Wisconsin is in a lull right now. The wake low that came through earlier has cleared out, and now we look to the est for additional chances for storms.
Storms are expected to fire across western Wisconsin over the next few hours in an area of greater instability. The overall trend will be for any storms moving east to weaken as they approach the lakefront.
We don't anticipate a watch tonight; however, we can't rule out an isolated strong to severe storms with some small hail and gusty winds.

3:15 PM Update:
A swath of very strong winds produced tree damage and power outages across Milwaukee county this afternoon. The airport measured a gust at 77 mph, which was likely a localized wet microburst.
Most of the winds were associated with a wake low. Take a look at the graphic above. These wake lows form when a decaying area of rain produces an area high pressure. On the backside of the precipitation rapidly sinking air creates warming and an area of low pressure. These two micro pressure systems can create winds over 50 mph.

1:15pm Update:
We have been downgraded for everyone to a Marginal Risk, which is great news. A chance for an isolated stronger storm is still possible this evening, but the tornado threat is very low.
11:15am Update:
A first round of non-severe heavy rain is moving in and is expected to hold until about 2-3. Chance for stronger storms is still possible by about 7, but the severe risk is going down.
