MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Milwaukee Diaper Mission distributed tens of thousands of diapers Monday morning on the city's north side.

The drive was in celebration of donating 2 million diapers since their organization began in 2020.

"It's incredible because we hit our one millionth milestone just last summer, so in a 12-month period, we distributed one million diapers in the community," explained executive director Meagan Johnson.

"A sigh of relief. It's really helpful," said Nikedah Carson, as she picked up diapers and wipes Monday.

They gave out 40,000 diapers during Monday's drive, enough to help 600 babies.

"I think the key word we constantly hear from families is, 'this is a blessing,'" Johnson said.

More than a dozen volunteers from marketing corporation Quad MKE helped with the drive, as it was held right outside their community development office.

"To have the opportunity to be here together, as a team, but most importantly to support the local Milwaukee community right here on 27th and Capitol, truly means the world to us," said site director Brandon Ramey.

Johnson said nearly half of families in the United States struggle to afford diapers.

This is a way to provide direct help.

"They're having to choose between groceries and diapers on a weekly basis," Johnson said. "So, when they hear about an event like this, right here in their neighborhood, that they can walk up and drive up and get these free supplies, it's a relief for them."
