MILAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The lacrosse community nationwide is mourning the loss of two Marquette Men’s Lacrosse players who were killed in a crash on Friday, Sept. 5.

According to Milwaukee police, 19-year-old Scott Michaud and 20-year-old Noah Snyder died after a 41-year-old collided into a car carrying six people. The other four passengers, two of them Marquette students, were sent to the hospital and are expected to survive.

Some of those closest to Michaud and Snyder were those who coached them before they became college athletes. Stefan Schroder said he coached Michaud while he was in high school in Springboro, Ohio, but first met Michaud when he was in third grade.

“He was this little kid who could barely carry around his goalie stick with a huge helmet on,” Schroder said. “Just big bug eyes, excited to get out there and try to stop every shot that was thrown at him.”

Schroder described Michaud as a fearless goalie. He said the message that informed him Michaud had died was one of the worst he has ever received.

“I just dropped my phone and kind of broke down,” Schroder said. “Watching him grow up to a little kid to the young man that he was. This one definitely hurts.”

Posts from lacrosse organizations across the country honor Michaud and Snyder. In a post from the Haudenosaunee Nationals, Snyder was remembered for his dedication to the sport and his respect for his heritage.

Both players are being remembered across the country from players and coaches who knew them. Marquette University held a mass at the Varsity Theatre on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 6, to pray for the families of the two student athletes

“I wouldn’t want this to happen to any of the kids I’ve had the opportunity to coach,” Schroder said.

Records from Milwaukee police show a 41-year-old woman was arrested near the scene of the crash for homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle on Friday, Sept. 6.A 41-year-old with her same name was booked into the Milwaukee County Jail.

CBS 58 is not naming her until formal charges are made.
