Thousands head to Veteran’s Park for final night of Harley-Davidson’s Homecoming Fest
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Thousands filled Milwaukee’s Veteran’s Park on Saturday for the final night of Harley-Davidson’s Homecoming Festival.
The 120th birthday attracted motorcycle enthusiasts from not only across the country but from around the world.
For Mike Nelson of Minnesota, the event is a can’t miss.
“It’s just really something when they rev up their engines and it echoes on the concrete walls of these high rise buildings,” Nelson said.
Kerry Royce and Susie Austin of Waukesha, Wisconsin, spent the day celebrating their love of bikes and also of each other.
“It’s our anniversary today,” Royce proudly told CBS 58’s Ellie Nakamoto-White. “Six years of finding the woman that I love.”
Austin agreed, noting it was nice to have alone time together.
“Just the two of us doing something together is pretty fun,” Austin said.
The two celebrated by getting pedicures earlier in the morning, with Royce getting alternating orange and black polishes with the letters “H-D” on his big toes.
“My daughter used to go get pedicures and manicures with Susie, well she moved to Arizona and she’s in nursing school, so I became the fill-in,” Royce said.
For Kevin Zanca from Louisiana, the 120th marked his fourth time enjoying the event.
“We came up Monday, we drove straight through from New Orleans here 20 hours,” Zanca said. “Meeting people from all over the world, meeting people from Wisconsin, meeting fellow riders that are enjoying their journey and their life and love motorcycles just like we do. See you for 125!”
Joseph Dickson of Grand Rapids, Michigan, was excited to show off his custom bike complete with airbrushed images of his friend who passed away two years ago.
“This is a tribute fender,” Dickson said. “I go to Daytona, Sturgis, and Wisconsin here, Milwaukee and it means a lot. He’s riding with me every time I ride.”
Foo Fighters took to the stage late Saturday night.
The event sold out.
