Tim and Gwen Walz to campaign in Milwaukee on Labor Day

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- On Labor Day, Democratic vice-presidential nominee Tim Walz and his wife Gwen will visit Milwaukee as part of a campaign blitz to hold a series of events in battleground states to highlight unions.

Walz and his wife will spend their day in Milwaukee to "underscoring the importance of American workers and unions to building a strong middle class and growing the economy," according to the campaign.

It will mark Walz first solo visit to the battleground state after holding two rallies with his running mate Vice President Kamala Harris in Milwaukee and Eau Claire earlier this month.

The trip will coincide with Harris traveling to Michigan and then Pennsylvania to join President Joe Biden on the first joint appearance since the Democratic National Convention in Chicago last week.

Campaigning in Milwaukee on Labor Day is not out of the ordinary.

In 2022, President Joe Biden visited Milwaukee's Laborfest and used the event to celebrate unions while also boosting support for Democratic candidates leading up to the midterm election.

The visit by Walz will come on the heels of a pair of campaign stops by the Trump campaign.

JD Vance, the GOP vice presidential nominee, will be in De Pere Wednesday and on Thursday former President Donald Trump will hold a town hall event in La Crosse.
