Trial underway for security guard accused of killing man over snack cakes in 2023
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The trial of a security guard charged with shooting and killing a man at a Milwaukee gas station over snack cakes is underway.
Back in August of 2023, investigators say 29-year-old Isaiah Allen walked into Teutonia Gas and Food and took a box of Little Debbie snack cakes and started to leave.
Security video obtained by investigators shows now 58-year-old William Pinkins grabbed a handgun, chased Allen, and shot him in the head.
Investigators say Pinkins stayed at the scene, smoking a cigarette calmly, told the officer he did not see the shooting and left.
Pinkins turned himself in two days later.
Pinkins -- the man on trial -- initially refused to wear street clothing throughout the trial, but around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, he put a T-shirt on with his jail pants and jury selection was underway.
Around 2:30 p.m., a jury of six women and eight men was selected.
Pinkins was previously convicted of first-degree reckless homicide in 1990. He had been released from prison for just five months before he shot and killed Allen.
The prosecution is expected to present their case on Thursday.
