MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 16-year-old is dead, and two others are hurt following a shooting near 79th and Hampton late Monday night, Oct. 20.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Marquis Champion of Milwaukee.

Two other teenage victims, an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.

"It was really bad," said Linda Read, who witnessed the aftermath. "Kids are too young to be violent like that."

Read said she's lived in the area for seven years.

"I don't even like to go outside half the time because of this," Read said. "It doesn't have to be like this, it's too young."

Officials said the shooting happened due to an argument but did not confirm if the teens all knew one another.

Adam Procell, the director for the city's Office of Community Wellness and Safety, said something needs to change.

"We have to find a way to resolve arguments without violence," Procell said. "We're not always going to get along with each other but if we don't start finding a way to handle conflict without violence, we're gonna be repeating the same cycle. It's okay not to like somebody, but there are other ways, on a positive level, that you can deal with these interactions or these conflicts, because they're always gonna come. You just can't keep shooting people because you don't like what they say or what they do."
