MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee held its annual Urban Forestry Showcase as part of National Apprenticeship Week on Monday, Nov. 18.
At Vincent High School, Milwaukee Public Works, Wisconsin's Department of Workforce Development, and Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson highlighted the value of the skilled trades.
Specifically, the arborist apprenticeship programs right here in Milwaukee.
"I think that these programs can help make sure we have a stronger foundation for you, the students, and putting you in a position to leave our city in a better place," said Mayor Johnson.
Milwaukee's Arborist apprenticeship programs teach critical skills for managing and maintaining urban forests and enhancing environmental sustainability.
The event featured live demonstrations from current apprentices and program leaders.
In addition, the city highlighted the impact that skilled urban forestry professionals have on our local community including contributing to the city's health and vitality and beauty of our public spaces.
