UW-Milwaukee police offer free steering wheel locks amid rash of auto thefts

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's (UWM) Police Department is offering free steering wheel locks.

The UWM Police Department said on Wednesday, Aug. 25 that steering wheel locks are available for students, faculty, or staff who own Kia or Hyundai vehicles. Police say these vehicles have been targeted in an ongoing rash of auto thefts across the country.

To receive a free steering wheel lock, contact UWM police at 414-229-4627. The department is open 24/7./

Police say proof of ownership is required and one lock is available per person.
