CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) students can now wish on their very own star.
UWM is naming star system "Gaia Black Hole 1 (Gaia BH1)" as its own.
On Thursday night, the university will make it official by holding a ceremony where a proclamation will be read declaring the star.
A UWM professor shared a little bit about the star and why it is perfect for the university.
"It's a system of two stars orbiting around each other, what we call a binary, where one of them is gold and one of them is a black hole. Gold and black are the UWM colors and so we identified this as a star that reflects the long history at UWM of exploring and studying space and black holes," said David Kaplin, professor of physics and astronomy at UWM.
There will also be a discussion about black hole discovery and how UWM's star was found.
The event starts at 7 p.m. in the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center.
