'Very frustrating': Christmas Eve car theft ends in fiery crash on Christmas Day
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- On Christmas Eve, a Milwaukee woman had three of her cars broken into, one of which was stolen, ending in a fiery crash at 68th and Fiebrantz.
"They were looking to steal cars and then they got to mine and were like, jackpot," said Baboonie Tatum, owner of stolen car.
On Christmas Eve, Baboonie Tatum's daughter noticed her mom's car was not in the driveway.
"I was like, 'It's out there.' She said, 'No, it's not here,' and I said, 'Oh my God, I think somebody stolen my car,'" Tatum explained.
She also had a van she uses for work, and her daughter's car parked in front of her house.
"I could tell they were looking for something because they broke into my van, they couldn't get it started, then they broke into my daughter's car," said Tatum.
She believes the thieves used a program to break into her car.
"There's actually these computer systems they have that they can start your car without the key," said Tatum.
Tatum called police to report the stolen car but found it the next day on social media.
"She sent me the video, and I was like, yup, that looks exactly like my car," said Tatum.
Milwaukee police tell CBS 58 three men were arrested. After stealing the car, they failed to yield at an intersection, hitting another car.
"There was a lady and her two kids visiting Indiana and they hit her. That's sad, they could have took her life." said Tatum.
The two 18-year-olds and 19-year-old then crashed into a parked van and a tree. They were taken to the hospital for injures after they crashed.
"It's just very frustrating. I work hard; I work hard for everything I own. For someone to just come and take it without my permission, it's just senseless," said Tatum.
Tatum says she plans on pressing charges.
The case has been referred to the Milwaukee District Attorney's Office, which says it's still pending investigation at this time.
