Video shows West Allis hit-and-run, victim recovering from broken bones in neck and back
WEST ALLIS (CBS 58) -- A father is recovering from serious neck and back injuries he suffered in a hit-and-run incident earlier in the week.
West Allis police are still looking for the driver responsible.
It happened December 30 on National Avenue, between 62nd and 63rd.
Surveillance video shows a man had just stepped off the curb and into the street.
Almost immediately, a white SUV hit him.
He rolled across the hood, then fell into the road and lay motionless.
The SUV slowed briefly, then drove away.
The man's daughter said he suffered broken bones in his neck and back.
She said he was just trying to walk back to his car.
The speed limit for that stretch of National is 30 mph.
There are crosswalks at each end of the block, but not where the man was crossing.
While the security video captured the incident, it does not offer a clear image of the driver's face or of the license plate.
A church across the street did not have video of the incident, and people at several apartments and businesses on the other side of the street said their cameras were not connected.
If you or anyone you know has any information that can help police find the driver of the SUV, please contact West Allis police at (414) 302-8000.
