Waukesha County residents continue fight against potential sports complex in Big Bend
BIG BEND, Wis (CBS 58) - People living in Waukesha County are continuing to speak out against a potential multi-million-dollar sports complex potentially being built in Big Bend.
Two weeks after the first public hearing for the proposed complex took place, the Big Bend planning commission met on Thursday night, Feb. 20.
The complex was not on the agenda, and people in attendance were told they could not bring it up in public comment.
“Public comments are for agenda items only per state statute, so if anybody's here to talk about the Breck Athletic Complex that will be next month on the 19th,” Plan Commissioner Warren Lajsic said.
Larry Wirth has lived in Big Bend for 50 years and was at the meeting looking to voice his concerns about the complex.
“I’m only allowed to talk about what they want to talk about tonight,” Wirth said. “I missed my dinner, I dragged my wife down here, I got here an hour early to speak and I can’t speak because it’s not a question or anything they’re interested in talking about tonight.”
The complex would be built towards the North part of Big Bend, on the border of Vernon and Waukesha.
It would hold over ten different sports fields, including soccer, baseball, lacrosse and more.
Dianna Perregaux lives across the street from the potential location of the sport hub and was at the meeting on Thursday night.
“A big complex like this out here in this area, it just does not fit in,” Perregaux said. “I don’t want to have people driving in and out up until 10 o’clock at night.”
