WHITEFISH BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Whitefish Bay police are warning residents to be aware of their surroundings after they received two reports of suspicious behavior involving a man in a vehicle. 

In the first incident, according to police, a man driving a small silver/gray four-door sedan approached an 8-year-old girl who was walking home and asked if she needed a ride. The man also repeatedly asked for the girl's name. In a separate incident, a 16-year-old girl reported a man -- matching the same description -- followed her and asked if she had a TikTok account. 

Both girls were able to get away from the situation unharmed and alerted adults who contacted police. 

Police describe the man in the vehicle as heaver-set, approximately 40-50 years old, and possibly Hispanic. 

"Whitefish Bay remains a very safe community," police said in a news release. "While reports of suspicious activity are taken seriously, incidents involving strangers approaching children are uncommon. The Whitefish Bay Police Department encourages residents to remain aware of their surroundings and promptly report suspicious behavior."
