Whoever wins, there's 1 reason to be happy after Election Day
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The end of this election season means the end of political calls and texts to our mobile phones. Voters like Vicki Bernd think that peace and quiet can't come soon enough.
"It doesn't matter who the political texts are from, I'm just annoyed," she said.
While many people rail against the non-stop political ads, Tiza Dixon says a text to their personal phone is more of an intrusion.
"I definitely feel like they went too far with it, with getting people's personal names and contacting them with their personal phone numbers, so I'll be glad when all of this is over," Dixon said.
Most campaigns get your mobile number by paying for it. Some voter information, like your name, address, and date of birth, is public record in Wisconsin. With that as a starting point, companies are very good at scouring the internet to get your cell number and sell that information to political campaigns.
While the public can report these calls as spam or junk, according to the FCC if they are campaign related, they are exempt from the National Do Not Call Registry.
Greg McPartlin says he accepts all the calls and texts as part of political season.
"On Christmas, you expect certain things. In political season, you expect certain things. Just don't even let it bother me," he said.
Still, other voters, like Bradie Schall, wonder if campaigns should use their energy on something more constructive.
"Just spend that money and time on actually solving the problems that they're campaigning on," she said.
Enjoy the peace and quiet while it lasts. There are less than 150 days until Wisconsin's next hotly contested election, a state Supreme Court race.
