Winter weather advisory issued Wednesday morning for flash freeze after overnight snow

A burst of snow rolled through southeast Wisconsin early Wednesday morning. It started in northern counties around 3 AM and moved south with some heavy snow. Visibility was impacted as winds gusted to 40 mph or higher which made the snow even worse.

Here is a radar image that will update with time:

At first when the snow was falling temperatures were in the 30s to around 40 so they snow melted when it hit the roads and made roadways wet and slushy. But the snow came with a cold front and temperatures dropped quickly into the 20s. All of that has caused all of the wet roads to freeze over and become an ice rink.

Here are current temps that will update with time:

Flash freeze is what we call a quick freezing event that comes as a result of quickly dropping temps. We have certainly seen that this morning and because of that a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for all of southeast Wisconsin until 10 AM.

Road conditions are in rough shape with numerous crashes. I-94 west was closed for a crash around Oconomowoc going towards Madison.
