Afternoon Update: Winter Weather Advisory issued ahead of wintry mix on Monday
Updated: Sunday, December 22nd 2:50pm:
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for all of southeast Wisconsin for Monday beginning at 3am and ending late afternoon.
Freezing drizzle develops early Monday morning with a glaze of ice likely on most surfaces. Snow will mix in as well, but not much accumulation is expected - under an inch with the accumulation confined to areas north of Milwaukee. Temps rise enough Monday afternoon to transition most of the precip to rain with a few areas of wet snow mixing in. Pavement temps may remain close to freezing all day though, so icy spots will be a concern.

The last few days have been a blast of winter right in time for the Winter Solstice with some areas getting a foot of snow Thursday into Friday then air temperatures dropping below-zero Saturday morning and staying chilly all day Saturday. Sunday morning was still chilly in the single digits and teens but we should warm up nicely into the low 30s Sunday afternoon with more clouds than sun. A few flurries can't be ruled out Sunday, but most stay dry. There is a better chance for some rain and snow showers Monday with the possibility of freezing rain and a glaze of ice Monday morning and some snow showers Monday afternoon. Tuesday could see a sprinkle, mainly in southern counties.
The big concern Monday will be in the morning with temperatures hovering in the low 30s, cold enough for any precipitation that forms to become ice. A glaze of ice is not out of the question for anyone traveling Monday morning.
By Monday afternoon the threat for ice will go away as temperatures warm into the upper 30s, but some rain and snow showers will be possible. If we can get any periods of steady snow there is the possibility for accumulation with a dusting to a full inch of snow possible, mainly in northern counties.
