Wisconsin Humane Society caring for 1,100 cats after mass surrender, urgently seeking homes
Wisconsin Humane Society MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Humane Society recently has had to set up emergency housing in office spaces after an unexpected surrender of 47 cats and kittens from a single home at the Milwaukee campus.
The organization is currently caring for 1,500 animals, including 1,100 felines, according to Angela Speed, vice president of marketing and communications. That represents about 250 more cats in care on a daily basis compared to 2024.
WHS received 121 cats and kittens as surrenders or strays across its locations Friday, Oct. 31.
"We are in high need of foster parents and adopters to help alleviate our critical space issues," Speed said. "In addition, this recent surrender of 47 cats is putting a significant strain on our resources, and monetary and supply donations would be deeply appreciated and put to use immediately."
All adult cat adoption fees are on a name your own fee basis, and kittens have buddy pricing with 50% off the second fee when adopting two at once. Adoption fees include spay/neuter surgery, initial vaccines, microchip and other benefits.
