Mother, daughter dead after house fire in Waukesha

WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Two women are dead after being pulled from a house fire in Waukesha on Monday, Nov. 3.

According to the Waukesha Fire Department, crews responded to a home on Fieldridge Court just before 9 a.m. and were met with heavy smoke throughout the home.

Crews started extinguishing the fire and quickly located two people. They attempted CPR on both women, who were taken to a local hospital but did not survive.

Neighbors at the scene told CBS 58 an elderly woman and her daughter were the victims. They have been identified by family as 79-year-old Fran Kind and 54-year-old Christine Bova. Family members say Fran was wheelchair bound and depended on a caregiver 12 hours a day. During the rest of the day, other family members stepped in. That's why Christine was home at the time of the fire.

Neighbor Carol King said Fran's husband, 84-year-old Don King, just passed away three weeks ago. "“We got to know them quite well. It’s just shocking that life is so fragile, and you never know what’s going to happen moment by moment.”

Another next-door neighbor reportedly rushed in when he saw smoke, going in with his own fire extinguishers. According to King, he opened doors, letting smoke out, finding Fran and Christine unconscious in a bed.

"They are going to be greatly missed. It’s going to be one that’s hard to get over," continued King.

The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes, according to the fire department.

The cause of the fire and cause of deaths are under investigation.
