UW Health Chief Quality Officer joins CBS 58 to discuss health...
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As Wisconsin inches closer to the 50% fully-vaccinated mark, many vaccinators are struggling with a balancing act.
It is all about keeping enough, but not too many vaccines on hand. Early on, there were so many people who wanted to be vaccinated. UW Health Dr. Jeff Pothof says pharmacists didn't have to worry about wasting doses, but that is changing now.
"Now, with less demand for the vaccine, you find yourself in a situation where if you crack that vial, you might not be able to see someone come in and get a dose," Dr. Pothof, chief quality officer at UW Health, said.
You might be wondering why wasting vaccine doses is a concern, considering we have more supply than demand. While that is true across the country, other countries, like India, are still seeing thousands of people die every day because they don't have enough vaccines to protect even the most vulnerable.
You can get vaccinated today across southeast Wisconsin. Most pharmacies have doses for walk-ins available all day.
