Woman attacks and bites security officer on MCTS bus, riders worried for safety

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- More questions are being raised over public safety on Milwaukee County buses.

A woman is accused of attacking and biting a contracted security officer during a bus ride Saturday, Jan.10.

A criminal complaint details the attack -- the second to happen on an MCTS bus in less than a month.

"It’s like a box of M&Ms, you never know what’s going to happen on the bus," said Denise, MTCS rider.

Thirty-four-year-old Chenequa McKinney was in court Tuesday. She was arrested over the weekend for battery to a public transit operator and disorderly conduct while riding a Milwaukee County Transit System bus.

According to the criminal complaint, McKinney pulled the security officer's hair, hit her multiple times and bit her left index finger, causing a laceration.

"There’s a lot of people with mental issues on the bus now," said Denise.

This comes less than a month after passenger Christopher Jones allegedly got into two separate fights with MCTS bus drivers in the same night.

CBS 58 has requested video of all three incidents; we are waiting to hear back from MCTS.

"I feel like the time when the bus is rowdy there’s not security in sight," said Virginia, MCTS rider.

An MCTS spokesperson sent CBS 58 the following statement:

"The safety of passengers and staff is MCTS' number one priority. MCTS is pleased to be rolling out two new programs in 2026 that were introduced as part of the 2026 budget process to enhance security on our buses. We are looking forward to sharing more information about these programs in the near future. In the meantime, we don't have any additional details to share outside of what was introduced in the budget."

"There’s been a couple like, little scary things, but it’s just part of living in a city," said Virginia.

MCTS says they will have more information about those programs in the near future.
