MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- One person is dead and several others, including a baby, are being treated at a hospital after Milwaukee police said multiple cars were involved in an early morning crash on Monday, March 17.

Officials said a vehicle traveling northbound struck another vehicle going west near 37th and Brown Street around 12:50 a.m.

That car then hit a third, which was parked on the side.

According to police, a 19-year-old in the second vehicle died from their injuries at the scene. The other person in that car, an 18-year-old, was taken to a hospital.

The three occupants of the third vehicle, a 4-month-old child, a 24-year-old, and a 31-year-old, were also transported.

"It's very sad," said Diamond McFarland, who lives right next to where the incident occurred. "I've been living in this neighborhood for quite a while, never seen such an incident happen like this before."

Now, pieces of car debris and shattered glass cover the front walkway up toward McFarland's home.

"The car was up this way, and then there was one other this way, and then another over here, and it was such a tragedy," McFarland said.

From across the street, Fatral Gibson said he saw flashing lights.

"A lot of police out here, like one in the morning, had the whole area blocked off, surrounded, everything," Gibson recalled. "Terrible, it's terrible, terrible situation, something's gotta be done."

Investigators have not said whether any arrests were made nor the cause of the crash but confirmed that it is not due to a police pursuit as rumored on social media.
