RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Sheriff's officials say a 15-year-old Racine girl is in critical condition after being pulled from the water at Carre-Hogle Park Thursday, July 31.

According to the Racine County Sheriff's Office, multiple 911 calls were placed around 6:02 p.m. reporting a person having trouble in the water.

Officials say conditions in the area were very poor, with 20-25 mph winds, 3-foot waves in the lagoon area, and visible rip currents.

Within less than 15 minutes from the time of call, Racine fire officials located the girl underwater about 20 feet from shore.

The child was pulled from the water, not breathing, and immediate lifesaving measures were performed. She was taken to an area hospital where she regained a pulse and was later transferred to a Milwaukee area hospital in critical condition.

The sheriff's office says an investigation revealed juveniles were in the water briefly before starting to have trouble. They say another girl tried to help but was pulled under the water briefly with the victim. No suspicious circumstances were found.
