2 charged in connection to death of inmate at Waukesha County Jail

WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Two women are facing charges in connection to the in-custody death of an inmate at the Waukesha County Jail.

Thirty-four-year-old Randy Glenn, Jr. was arrested on Jan. 16. Staff reported finding him unresponsive in his cell during a routine check on Jan. 17.

According to the Waukesha County Sheriff's Office, Glenn ingested plastic bags containing cocaine and fentanyl "at some point" before or after he was arrested and denied doing so. They say he was evaluated by nursing staff repeatedly while in custody.

Deborah Link, 65, and Johanna Grace, 33, have now been charged in connection to Glenn's death, following an investigation by the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Each face one count of abusing a resident of a penal facility.

In a press release Thursday, the sheriff's office said they are "disappointed and saddened to learn of the charges."

They went on to say Grace's employment with Waukesha County was terminated several months ago, and the security clearance of Nurse Debbie Link was revoked previously. She is no longer working with the jail.

The sheriff's office says a full internal review of the events leading up to Glenn's death is underway, and an external review will be conducted by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.

Link and Grace are due in court for initial appearances on Sept. 7.
