'All the love': Pewaukee community throws birthday parade for 5-year-old battling terminal brain cancer
PEWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Dozens of cars made their way down Lookout Drive on a chilly December night to wish one special little girl a very happy birthday.
Delaney Krings turned 5-years-old on Friday, Dec. 16, 2022.
"This is the least we can do for her," Cindy Perich, a parade participant, said.
It's not just any birthday. Her parents, Heather and Jacob Krings, said doctors expect this will be her last.
Delaney Krings is battling terminal brain cancer. She's been in and out of the hospital, surgeries, and treatments since she was diagnosed in October.
"It's so nice having her home again," Jacob Krings said.
Home with her family and what felt like the entire Pewaukee community.
"We can't feel the pain but we're going to fight for her," Jose Moreno, a parade participant, said.
Delaney Krings' parents said the turnout was overwhelming, not only from her hometown, but around the world.
"There's so many great people out there doing so much for us. You're really happy to see it, but you wish it wasn't your kid," Jacob Krings said.
Tens of thousands of people have sent Delaney Krings birthday cards and gifts.
"We have people working in shifts, opening cards just so we can show them to her," Heather Krings said.
Delaney Krings wasn't able to watch the parade from outside because of her physical condition and the weather, but her family is thankful to the community for showing their daughter how loved she is.
"There's just so much love coming at us," Heather Krings said.
It's not too late to wish Delaney Krings happy birthday.
Birthday cards can be sent, addressed to: Delaney Krings C/O Shorewest Realtors, 1296 Summit Ave. Oconomowoc, WI 53066.
