NOW: Authorities respond to Germantown High School after report of man with a gun

GERMANTOWN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Germantown Police say they got a call just before 6:30 p.m. saying that a man, wearing all black, entered the school with a gun.

Police say as they received more information, the credibility of the report became "questionable".

The school was searched, and authorities say there was no one who matched the description of the report and no weapon was found.

Police say there is no threat at this time.

GERMANTOWN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Police cleared out of the Germantown High School parking lot around 9:40 p.m. after a chaotic night that saw student athletes and coaches running for their lives.

It all started before 6:30pm Friday night. A large police presence responded with squads from Germantown and Washington County, along with a fire truck, an ambulance and an armored vehicle for unconfirmed reports of a man with a gun.

Our crew arrived on scene, seeing law enforcement with rifles in hand moving from room to room on the second floor of the school around 8pm. Our crew also saw a law enforcement drone flying above the school, and heard police on a loud speaker multiple times, what was said though was unclear.

Parents we spoke to say this was shocking. They're grateful tonight that their kids are home safe. One mom says her daughter was at a club swim practice that had just finished up and was about to start their Halloween party when their coach rushed in and urged all swimmers to run out of the building and leave everything behind.

"Everybody was terrified and these were swimmers so they were cold and wet, some were barefoot, they were just very shaken up," said Mindy Steighner, parent of a swimmer.

The Germantown High School boys volleyball game was going on Friday evening as well. We are still waiting for Germantown police to reveal details of why they were called to the scene.
