MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Brewers announced an expanded partnership with Northwestern Mutual Friday, Sept. 15.

The Brewers said for the first time ever, the Milwaukee Brewers' uniforms will have a sponsor patch on them.

The patch located on the jersey sleeves reads: Northwestern Mutual.

"For the Brewers to be able to play with that name on their patch in cities where we have clients, where we have salespeople, where we have offices, just expands that brand, I think in a national way," said John Schlifske, CEO of Northwestern Mutual.

Along with the patch announcement, the Brew Crew went on to say, Northwestern Mutual will also be the crew's official financial planning partner.

"It was a just a natural sort of conversation to take it to the next level," said Schlifske.

The move is a part of a multi-year plan.

Leaders at American Family Field said sports jerseys can be hallowed grounds, so this square patch was thoughtfully designed for the diamond.

"We decided as an enterprise, and as an organization, collectively baseball, to do something that we think is tasteful, smart, not over the top, consistent with respecting the jersey," said Rick Schlesinger, president of business operations for the Milwaukee Brewers.

And while the patch may be small, Brewers fans are hoping it can create some big dollars.

"Any revenue stream that they can get, that keeps the team, gives them an opportunity to sign free agents, you know, keep up with the big boys," said Paul Fix, a Brewers fan.
