Brief heat and humidity Wednesday brings a chance for strong to severe storms

CBS 58

The start of this week has been much cooler than last week's four days in a row in the 90s. We stayed in the 70s for highs Sunday and Monday then saw very average low 80s for highs on Tuesday. The dew points have also stayed fairly comfortable in the 50s which has been it feel more tolerable outside. That round of comfy air has come to an end with temps and dew points already increasing Wednesday morning. Highs Wednesday afternoon will hover around 90 then we get a cold front and lake breeze that keeps us cooler Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the upper 70s to around 80. Another round of heat starts Sunday.

Dew pints will reach the upper 60s on Wednesday making it feel fairly muggy. Even more humidity is expected Thursday with dew points getting into the tropical category around 70. The dew point drops a bit for Friday in the mid 60s but stays in the noticeable category. Saturday will see similar noticeable humidity before more humid air returns starting Sunday.

The combination of highs around 90 and lots of humidity Wednesday will push feels like temps all the way into the mid 90s. Drink plenty of water and find shade on Wednesday but it's not as hot as last week.

Returning heat and humidity will bring back the chance for some storms Wednesday afternoon and evening. The best timing for storms looks to be from 3-10 PM. The better storm chance will be in our northern counties.

Any storms that form Wednesday evening could be strong to severe with all of the heat adding fuel for storms. Some of our northern counties, where the storm chance looks better, are under a Level 2 Slight Risk. Then the rest of southeast Wisconsin is under a Level 1 Marginal risk.

Gusty wind will be the main threat with any storms that we see Wednesday but some hail is also possible. The tornado risk is very low but not completely zero. Some heavy rain may be possible with storms, especially Wednesday night, so there is a low risk for brief flash flooding. Rain totals for most will end up between 0.25-0.75" between the strong storms Wednesday evening and scattered storms throughout Thursday. Some isolated areas could see up to 1.50".
