Car strikes train in Sheboygan County

The Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from Union Pacific Railroad just before midnight Wednesday night. A train had been struck by a vehicle on Hoftiezer Road, east of Kappers Road, in the Town of Holland.

When deputies arrived, they found a 24-year-old male driver, and lone occupant of the car, had received severe injuries from the crash. The driver was flown to Theda Clark Medical Center with serious injuries.

The initial investigation suggests speed and failure to obey a yield sign were factors in this crash. The driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
