CBS 58's Hometown Athlete: Carroll player graduates, then gets NFL tryout
WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- When the Miami Dolphins came calling, Reed Breckheimer jumped into action.
The Carroll tight end had to have a special distribution of his diploma, meaning officially graduate early.
"Oh, it feels awesome," Reed Breckheimer says. "When I first figured out, we were doing this, I thought it was like going to be a five-minute thing. And my parents and family from two hours away. So, I was like you guys don't really have to come. My dad called me and was like yep, everyone's coming. I was like, alright, sweet! Let's get it done."
The longest of long shots? Breckheimer is just one of four Division III football players to get this opportunity this season. And even though he didn't make it, he'll always have quite the story to tell.
"He's a phenomenal student," Carroll football head coach Mike Budziszewski says. "Great teammate. He's every coach's dream. And the work that he has put in to bettering himself and this program has really been vindicated by this opportunity in the NFL."
