Chicago's David Malukas feels at home in Wisconsin at Road America
ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- IndyCar set for another big crowd at Road America and Chicago native David Malukas swung by the CBS 58 studios to talk about his love of racing at the place his dad took him to as a kid.
"At least for our schedule it's the closest I think to home. Right?" Team Penske driver David Malukas says. "It almost feels like a home track for me and it's something that I grew up with. You know it was those early days of me playing with Hot Wheels."
He continues, "You know, picking my nose playing Hot Wheels. And what got me to an actual racetrack was Road America. It was my first track. Dad's going around in the Corvette. And I just get to experience that, and I did some go karting around here and I don't know, just Milwaukee too. The city. It feels close to Chicago. I mean, similar energy. Similar vibes. The building structure. Everything just feels so close to home. And so, I just get along with Wisconsin and to me this feels like home. And at least for me, friends, family, this is a big one, we're gonna have so many people coming over for this race."
CBS58 Sports Director Lance Allan asked him what would it mean to him to win and be in victory lane on Sunday?
"Well, it would mean so many things," Malukas says. "Obviously first it would be my first win in IndyCar which I've been trying so hard to get. We've been getting close and for it to all come together at Wisconsin? That would be a special moment because it would be almost like full circle. Like hey, this is where everything kind of started for me. And my interest in racing and now here I am, getting my first IndyCar win at this place so it would be very special."
