Complaint: 3 charged in alleged gang retaliation shooting that killed 26-year-old
Racine Police Department RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Racine Police Department identified the 26-year-old shot and killed on Nov. 1 as Cier Tye-Person.
Racine police also believe that his murder is in connection to another that took place at a Chicken Palace a day after he was killed.
According to police, 25-year-old Jaquon Calhoun was shot inside a Chicken Palace in which they believe was a targeted retaliation shooting for the murder of Cier Tye-Person.
In a press release, Racine officials state that they worked to piece together the events leading up to both homicides, which led to the arrests of three suspects in the murder of Tye-Person.
RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Three men are charged in connection to a deadly shooting that took place early Saturday, Nov. 1. Racine police believe the shooting was in retaliation for a homicide involving a gang member years prior.
Early Saturday, Nov. 1, Racine police responded to reports of shots fired near 10th St. and College Ave. At the same time officers were responding to that area, a blue Honda CRV pulled up to a local emergency room with a 26-year-old male passenger suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
He later died from his injuries.
The driver of the Honda stated he and the 26-year-old were driving in the area of 10th and Park when they were shot at. He stated he saw a white Dodge Durango when the shooting occurred but could not see the shooters.
Officers received surveillance video from the area showing the white Durango and two people, which they believe were the shooters, running through yards looking for the Durango as an attempt to leave the area, according to the criminal complaint.
Later, law enforcement identified Zharon Smith as the driver and owner of the car and Isaiah McGlorn and Chihene Davis as the two passengers.
McGlorn and Davis were determined by prosecutors to be the shooters.
The criminal complaint states that law enforcement believes the shooting to be gang related as the persons in the Honda are associated with the northside Racine gang and McGlorn, Davis, and Smith are associates of the southside Racine gang.
The criminal complaint also notes that earlier that evening another northside gang member was in the Honda, who was previously charged with the killing of a southside gang member years ago but was found not guilty.
Prosecutors believe due to this information the shooting that occurred early Saturday was an act of retaliation for the homicide and a targeted shooting according to the criminal complaint. However, the northside gang member involved with the homicide several years ago wasn't in the car at the time of the shooting early Saturday.
Davis and McGlorn were both charged for first degree intentional homicide, attempted homicide, numerous counts of bail jumping, and felon in possession of a firearm.
Smith was arrested for first degree intentional homicide - party to a crime, and first degree attempted homicide - party to a crime with other bail jumping charges.
