Crime Stoppers: 21 people shot in Milwaukee over the last week
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- After one of the most violent days in Milwaukee's history, city and county leaders came together to encourage the community to do something to stop it.
Just this week, there were 21 people shot in Milwaukee. Four of them died and five of those shot were children.
At this time last year, there were 11 kids killed by gun violence. This year so far, there have been 10.
Non-fatal shootings are down compared to 2023 but the numbers still aren't good.
While these statistics help us keep track, city leaders say it's not about that. It's about seeing what's happening around your community and doing something to help.
"Understand that you are a role model whether negative or positive. We need to understand that we are better than this. That its not enough to use firearms when we feel we are disrespected. We have other tools out there, other resources and we are begging for you to come and ask for help. There are individuals out there waiting to help but you need to meet us halfway," said Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman. "We all need to understand that we are better when we do this together. And as we always talk about, Crime Stoppers is here to help us out with these investigations. We are only as good as the information given to us."
Milwaukee Crime Stoppers is a safe way to report crimes without anyone ever knowing who you are.
The P3 Tips App is anonymous, too. You can download the app or call 224-TIPS. You can give a tip on any of the shootings from this week and if your tip leads to an arrest, you get cash.
