WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- There's a reason to smile in Waukesha -- literally.

On the morning of Sept. 6, Dental Care of Waukesha held its annual "Free Dentistry Day" which offers fillings, extractions, and cleanings at no charge for patients.

“Today is Waukesha’s day to give back to the community," said Mary Alshuqairi, the regional manager of operations for Heartland Dental, which offers the day at their other locations during the year. “Your oral health right goes into your blood stream and goes into your whole body so it’s very important to keep up with it.”

Alshuqairi said Saturday's turnout specifically was especially high compared to past years.

“Families come in, bring their children in," Alshuqairi said. "We have people who bring their parents in so very thankful."

One of those people?

Gauruv Mahendru, who brought in his father, Satish.

“I read about it, and I spoke with my dad, and I was like do you want to go here?“ Mahendru said. “This just came at the right time.”

Mahendru added that days like Saturday are key for those who might not be able to receive regular service.

“I’m very appreciative of that," Mahendru said. “That’s such an important thing, especially for a person like my dad who is at an advanced age right now, for them to really proactively know if something is happening in the body... I think it's a great community service.”
