76th and Douglas crash CBS 58

Along a snow-covered path, tire tracks and burn sports remain from a fatal and fiery overnight crash. Milwaukee police say the crash happened around 1 a.m. near 76th and Douglas. Security video obtained by CBS 58 shows officers arriving to the smoke-filled area. Shortly after, the smoke continues to grow.

Employees at a nearby business say the vehicle veered off a bridge, crushed into a steel container, and then caught on fire.

“It was a lot of smoke. A lot of heat. It was just a lot going on. Just seeing the car run off the side of the hill and hitting into the trees and the trees catching fire and it was a whole lot to comprehend," said Demar Nembhard with Jason’s Auto, a nearby business. “It’s made of steel and for the impact to be inside of it, you can tell it was a really bad hit. It was a really bad hit.”

Jason's Auto has been at this location for nearly 15 years. Nembhard says he's never seen and incident like this before.

“So close to the office it’s like anything can happen," said Nembhard.

Roughly 20 minutes before the crash, Milwaukee police responded to a non-fatal shooting along the same stretch on 76th Street. A 32-year-old victim was sent to a nearby hospital.

“It’s just the start of the year. We’re still in January and we’re seeing this type of stuff. It’s not a good look for the city," said Nembhard.

Both incidents are under investigation.
