Dynamic midweek storm to bring showers, storms and snow to Wisconsin

For the second time in less than a week, a large storm system will make its way across the central United States. Just like the storm we had this past Friday through Sunday, we will have a lot of wind. High Wind Warnings and Red Flag Warnings have been issued to our southwest with Blizzard Warnings in place for Wednesday throughout Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota. Locally, northern Wisconsin is under a Winter Storm Watch for the potential for close to 10" of snow in spots. There are no current watches, warnings or advisories for southeast Wisconsin. While we may get a Wind Advisory, no winter weather headlines are expected here.
For us in Wisconsin the storm starts Wednesday morning with some light showers. By late Wednesday morning into the afternoon we could start to see more steady, moderate areas of rain. There is a chance for storms, some of which could be strong, between 4-8 PM.
A Level 1 Marginal Risk for severe weather is in place Wednesday for most of southeast Wisconsin. Some hail and gusty wind will be the primary threats. Widespread storms are not likely but a few stronger cells or an isolated severe storm are possible. The severe risk is a bit better to our south in Illinois and Indiana where they are under a Level 2 Slight Risk.
The chance for thunderstorms will shift quickly to a threat of accumulating snow late Wednesday evening through Thursday morning. The snow could come down heavy at times Wednesday evening/night. Some of that snow could impact the Thursday morning commute.
Any snow that does accumulate will be very slushy with most of the accumulation on grass, grass, patio furniture, etc. but some slushy driveways, sidewalks, side roads are possible. Even freeways could become snow covered at times before the heart of the morning commute gets on the roads. Most of southeast Wisconsin should expect 1-3" of snow.
