Fans pack Kopp's in Greenfield for chance to meet Hugh Jackman ahead of movie premiere
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Fans are gathering outside the Oriental Theatre on Milwaukee's east side Tuesday, to welcome a very special guest.
Hugh Jackman will be there for the premiere of his new movie, "Song Sung Blue," which tells the story of the Milwaukee-based Neil Diamond cover band Thunder and Lightning.
The actor was at Kopp's in Greenfield earlier in the day Tuesday, and fans packed the custard shop for a chance to meet the "Song Sung Blue" star and maybe even get a scoop from him.
Fans say they waited for hours- the first in line even got to the parking lot at midnight, just to see Hugh Jackman. He arrived around 2 p.m., joined by "Song Sung Blue" director Craig Brewer, and scooped up some lifelong memories for fans.
Jackman arrived at Kopp's in Greenfield to a friendly face -- the real-life stepdaughter of the man he portrays in "Song Sung Blue."
"It's just such an honor to have so many people not only show up and show out for meeting Hugh and Craig, but also for being a part of the movie," Rachel Cartwright said, daughter of Claire Sardina.
She wasn't the only one excited. A line wrapped around the building, with fans hoping to get a scoop of custard from their favorite actor.
"I came from Chicago just to meet Hugh Jackman," said Bryan Alvarez. "My hero."
"I was lucky," said Kiana Parker, fan from Milwaukee. "I had the day off of work, and even if I didn't, I was calling in. I was coming to see one of my husbands, okay, it was exciting."
The first 500 people in line got to see Hugh as he scooped up the special Song Sung Blueberry flavored custard.
"This is the first time I've ever had custard," Jackman said. "It's really good."
Those who had the small special moment say it was worth it.
"It's an experience, to say you did this," said fan Alyssa Rodriguez. "We waited forever in the cold to meet Hugh Jackman. Not a lot of people can say that."
"I told him it was the number one thing on my bucket list," fan Korrine Mack said. "Anyone who knows me, knows I'm obsessed with him. Dream come true, honestly."
Next, Hugh is heading to the Oriental Theatre for the hometown premiere of "Song Sung Blue."
He's also introducing the film at a special screening at Marcus Majestic in Brookfield.
Those showings are invite-only, so most fans who want to see the film will have to wait until its full release on Christmas Day.
