MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Thousands of people gathered in Milwaukee this weekend for the eighth annual Frida Fest, a celebration of art, culture and community inspired by renowned Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.

The two-day festival showcased local artists from across southeast Wisconsin and featured live music, dancing, more than 60 vendors, art exhibits, educational displays and a Frida Kahlo look-alike contest.

"Someone who turned adversity into art, and her legacy has lived throughout the years, and today we celebrate her legacy," organizer Thaime Gomez said.

This year's festival also supported a humanitarian cause, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting people recovering from the recent earthquakes in Venezuela.
