Fundraiser supports South Milwaukee Human Concerns after $100,000 flood loss

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A sold-out fundraiser that took place Wednesday, Oct. 15 at the Bucyrus Club and Event Center raised money for South Milwaukee Human Concerns after flooding in August caused an estimated $100,000 in damage to the nonprofit’s basement.
The storm reportedly destroyed school supplies, food, Christmas toys and medical equipment. Despite the losses, the organization quickly resumed its work helping families in need.
"We had to start from almost ground zero down there, the food stocks and other supplies that we regularly provide our community," said board president Dan Reszel. "It took two weeks for clean up, we opened up as soon as we could again, we started to crawl before we could walk again, but this event is going to help us run again."
Board members said they were surprised when the event sold out weeks in advance, as it showed them how much the nonprofit’s work means to the community.
