MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As students prepare to return to the classroom, families can start making small changes now to ease the transition from summer break.

Judy Cohen of Lakeside Educational Services joined us Wednesday, Aug. 12 with some words of wisdom about ways parents can help shift children from "summer brain" to "school brain."

She suggested gradually moving up bedtimes and wake-up times, creating a dedicated homework space and getting students accustomed to eating breakfast again. She also recommended reusing school supplies when possible, introducing planners and encouraging children to help prepare their own lunches.

Cohen also kept a focus on keeping a positive attitude about the return to school while still listening to children who may have concerns about going back.
